It states there that yous may need an app password to add your AOL e-mail account to Outlook. This is the i being entered instead of your actual countersign for your AOL business relationship.

The application password can be generated when you sign into the webmail of AOL. We've found a related thread: adding aol mail service to my outlook that contains steps on how you tin can get this.

I appreciate all your help with this trouble.

My email DOES Not require a 2 footstep authentication.

I was getting mistake messages last week before I deleted my AOL business relationship proverb information technology was not syncing.  Unfortunately since deleting the electronic mail account I cannot provide a screenshot of the error.  Below I used OneNote for a screenshot of the mistake message I am getting now but information technology is the standard bulletin.  I have checked the business relationship settings and they are correct and I've tried several of the troubleshooting suggestions just none have worked.  Before I deleted the account I tried to REPAIR it but that did not work either.  I idea maybe the account/linkages got corrupted somehow and if I deleted the account and then added it back that would gear up the problem.  This AOL business relationship shows up in OUTLOOK under ACCOUNT SETTINGS in the DATA FILES tab as an aol.com.ost file which I also tried to delete but it will not allow me do it.  I did not provide a screenshot of this due to privacy considerations since this is a public forum.

Thanks for getting back to u.s..

We admit that your AOL account may take the two-step verification turn off and have the right settings for it. In the related thread that we've shared in our previous response: calculation aol mail to my outlook, the Original Poster at that place encountered the same error bulletin as you do: Something Went Wrong --  We couldn't log on to the incoming (IMAP) server  Please check your email address and password and try again. The suggestion of Diane Poremsky MVP to create an app countersign has worked even if the two-stride is also off. May nosotros confirm if you've tried this method aside from repair?

We know that you may have not used the app countersign when you've initially added and sync your AOL account to Outlook, nevertheless, there may exist changes made on the AOL side, that's why we're recommending this step since other customers also have tried this.

If you haven't done this however, y'all may proceed to log in to your account to the webmail version of AOL and cheque the option where it says Manage app passwords, then look for the app that you're using, which is Outlook Desktop and generate a password. In one case it provides y'all a password, you'll be using that instead of the actual password for your AOL business relationship, the app password is just used for the Outlook desktop app.

Let u.s.a. know how it goes later trying to use the generated app countersign. We'll wait for your update.

I appreciate your attention to my issue.

Notwithstanding, I cannot generate an App password because Outlook does not recognize or show my AOL email.  Information technology will not allow me add AOL equally some other email account.  I've tried all the troubleshooting exercises that have been suggested.

My Microsoft account is tied to my AOL email considering I was using AOL exclusively when I got this laptop in 2013.  Since and so I use GMail as my personal electronic mail to communicate with family and friends but I still have another websites tied to the AOL email.

When I go into OUTLOOK  Business relationship SETTINGS  DATA FILE TAB it shows my AOL Email account every bit aol.com.ost    What is this file?

One more thing, is it possible to reset my laptop to an earlier date.  This was something y'all could practise in Microsoft years ago only I don't know if Windows10 has this capability.  I've searched but take been unable to find information technology under RECOVERY.  I know the engagement I deleted my AOL from OUTLOOK.

You're welcome. We'll be here for you to check on this further.

Noted that it can't generate an App password. Based on the steps you've provided before on how you're adding the AOL account, information technology's the steps in adding another electronic mail account in Outlook. Can you clarify what you mean by your Microsoft account is tied to your AOL account? Exercise you mean you have a Microsoft account with Outlook/Hotmail.com domain and your AOL business relationship is connected to that account? Is that correct?

When you go under Account Settings > Data File tab, the aol.com.ost that you're seeing at that place is the data file for your AOL email account at the time that it'south configured in Outlook. It's used to shop a synchronized copy of your mailbox information on your local computer. To know more about this, yous may check this commodity: Introduction to Outlook Information Files (.pst and .ost) and go along to the section: Offline Outlook Information File (.ost).

The other recommendations that we tin provide to isolate this concern are equally follows:

Method 1:

An boosted step to isolate this further is to create a new Outlook contour and configure the account from there. This will determine if the issue is acquired by a corrupted profile. To practise this, please check: Create an Outlook profile . In one case a new profile is already created, you may attempt configuring your AOL business relationship from there and come across if in that location will be any improvements.

Method 2:

We'd recommend that you try using the Microsoft Back up and Recovery Banana (SARA) tool. This is helpful to be used with Outlook bug and setting an account. There will exist on-screen instructions that will make this step easy to follow. The tool volition do the work for u.s.. It will identify the possible crusade and will provide its resolution at the same time. Please refer to this article: About the Microsoft Support and Recovery Banana for farther information on how to use the SARA tool.

Regarding the option or way to reset your laptop to an earlier date, there'south an pick to perform that since you're using a Windows ten device. We've found an article about this: How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC and become to the section: To restore your PC to an earlier point in time. However, if y'all have further questions about Windows and on how this can be done, it would be best if you'll create/start a new post under Windows forum category, and so you'll be guided with other experts that handles this type of concerns.

Please respond to this thread to let me know how the issue progresses. Similarly, if you have more questions, please inform me by replying to this post.

Cheers so much for all your attention to my problem.  I am very grateful!

I only mentioned that my AOL business relationship is linked to my Microsoft account in case it was important to the problem I am having.  What I meant was at the time I set up my Microsoft account in 2013 when I got this laptop I used the AOL account/password as the login and I continue to use it now.  I only thought I would tell you in instance it might relate to this issue.

Below I have a screenshot to create a new profile.  I was non clear on what else to do.  It already shows up as Outlook and it would not allow me to change information technology.

I hoped to be able to restore my PC.  However, I demand to go dorsum to 4/6/2021.  The engagement in the restore awarding was 4/12/2021 and it could not be changed.  How can I modify it to the earlier date?

Also, is there any helpful files stored in the Cloud?

Again, I capeesh your help!

Regarding the suggestion of creating a new Outlook profile, were y'all able to create a new 1 already using the steps that tin can be found here: Create an Outlook contour? If yes, you may click on the arrow down every bit shown in the image, then select the name of the new Outlook profile y'all've created.

If y'all haven't created a new Outlook profile even so, then you may select New, to create a new one. So, select it from the list. In one case the new profile is launched, you may proceed to add the AOL account equally usual.

In line with restoring your PC, the restore dates that you can see are the just ones bachelor that you lot tin can choose from. Please be informed also that restoring the computer to an earlier engagement won't bear on files and applications.

In one case you're done with the steps on creating a new profile, and then you lot may also follow Method 2 that was suggested, which is the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SARA) tool. This can also help in configuring the account and can check if the outcome is with the Outlook app or maybe the account specific configuration already. This was the commodity: About the Microsoft Support and Recovery Banana for further information on how to utilize the SARA tool that we've provided.

Permit us know if you may take farther questions.

I should accept read your reply earlier I tried to restore my PC.  Information technology took 2 hours and did not work.  But now it is fresh in my listen on how to do this in the futurity if I always need to do it!!

I was Not able to add a new profile.  The instructions do not match exactly to the steps required to exercise it.  And then this is making information technology confusing to me.

The outset step says select NEW to create a new profile.  This is what I come across post-obit the instructions.  There is no option for NEW.  If I choose OPTIONS

Image

If I cull OPTIONS this is what I meet

Image

Image

So if I click on NEW this is what happens

Image

Then I click OK and this pops up

And now I am back in the aforementioned loop

Then this bulletin again

I ran the SARA Tool

Image

Now what?
